Description of the different courses and Radiation Protection education system

There are 4 different types of RPO in Poland. Additionally, there are 14 positions important for ensuring nuclear safety and radiological protection. Requirements concerning qualifications, scope of training and examinations for the candidates applying for authorizations enabling the employment in these positions can be found on:

http://www.paa.gov.pl/en/doc/atomic_law/2005-173.pdf

These authorizations are given by the President of National Atomic Energy Agency [http://www.paa.gov.pl]

Each organization which provides courses has to have permission given by the President of Agency for training program and fulfilling all requirements.

Training shall be conducted in the form of lectures, computational exercises, laboratory exercises or training in the workplace, depending on the scope of training.

These positions are generally in the industry and education field.

Additionally, there are also RPO type R and S given by Chief Sanitary Inspector for candidates for the authorization for radiological protection officers in X-ray laboratories using X-ray devices for the purposes of medical diagnostics, interventional radiology, surface radiotherapy and radiotherapy of non-cancerous diseases.

These positions are closely connected with medical field.

All requirements, examination and scope of training in these cases have to be authorized by the Chief Sanitary Inspector.

*) Line ‘medical – academic’ is understood as no-patient treatment because polish law gives distribution between medical and no-medical actions.

There are no special regulations concerning RPE. However, the President of National Atomic Energy Agency recognized competences of RPO as RPE.
