University of Groningen
The University of Groningen (UG) is an international university that focuses on all disciplines of science and technology. The UG is well-established within the Northern Netherlands region and has grown into an open academic community. Through our teaching and research, we foster the development of talent and work towards a better, more sustainable society, with a special focus on the research areas of Energy and Climate, Public Health, Sustainable Development, and Digitization and AI.
Groningen Academy for Radiation Protection
The UG has a history of almost 50 years of organizing nationally recognized radiation protection courses. But it also applies ionizing radiation for all kinds of research and education. In order to fulfil all legal requirements for these applications, the UG has radiation protection unit since about 30 years.
In September 2017, the Groningen Academy for Radiation Protection (GARP) was established. GARP is the knowledge center for radiation protection in the Northern Netherlands. Besides the radiation protection unit of the UG, also the radiation protection training courses are accommodated in GARP.
Currently, GARP offers
- an annual Radiation Protection Expert course
- Radiation Protection Officer courses for
o dispersible radioactive material
o measurement & control devices with sealed radioactive sources
o measurement & control devices with X-ray equipment & accelerators
o applications in dentistry (basic)
o applications in dentistry (Conebeam CT)
- various refresher courses for RPEs and RPOs
- basic instruction courses for Radiation Workers, if necessary adapted to needs of the requesting party
Although the usual language in most courses is Dutch, courses can in general also be taken in English.
