Jorge Miguel Sousa Isidoro, Board member


Jorge Isidoro is a Medical Physics and Radiation Protection Expert at the Coimbra University Hospital – ULS Coimbra. He began working in the Nuclear Medicine Department in 1995, where he is responsible for various medical physics tasks, including radiation protection and the training of medical physicists and nuclear medicine residents. Since 2021, he has also served as an invited assistant professor at Coimbra University in the master's program for medical physics.

Since 2002, he has been a member of the Health Ministry's ACSS Coordination Board for the Education and Training of Hospital Physicists. In 2022, he became a member of the Medical Physics Council - ACSS board, which oversees the certification of Medical Physics Experts and addresses matters related to education and training.

He has played an active role in advancing the Medical Physics profession in Portugal and internationally, collaborating with organizations such as the IAEA and EFOMP. He was a member of the coordination board of the Medical Physics Division of the Portuguese Physics Society (DFM-SPF) and served as the first president of the Portuguese Association of Medical Physicists (APFISMED). At EFOMP, he was part of the Professional Matters Committee and served on the first European Examination Board from 2016 to 2019. Additionally, he has participated in various working groups and task forces at both national and international levels, including contributing to the development of national recommendations for the qualification framework of Medical Physicists and acting as an IAEA expert in training courses in Portugal and Angola. He is also a co-author of the EFOMP Policy Statements 6.1 and 10.1.
